About Wellington - Our Capital City

You'll find more cafes and restaurants per head of population in Wellington, than in any other New Zealand city. Add in excellent shopping and professional theatres, all close to untouched nature spots, and you have a vibrant city that can be explored easily on foot.

Wellington is home to the Beehive (New Zealand's Parliament Buildings) and the Old Government Buildings, which are the largest wooden buildings ever constructed in the southern hemisphere. The Capital city also has many historic buildings and museums that tell the story of New Zealand.

Powhiri & Keynote Sessions - Pipitea Marae

A powhiri (traditional Maori welcome) will be held on the first morning of the SPINZ Symposium to welcome visitors to this area and acknowledge the indigenous people of New Zealand (Aotearoa).

Following this important process, our invited speaker Professor Mason Durie will deliver his keynote presentation.

Pipitea Marae is located in Thorndon and is within walking distance of the city. Transport options to and from the marae will be posted at a later stage.

Powhiri process and protocol will be explained, with details posted on this site soon.
